“The future of our planet depends on a change of consciousness, in which the people and the resources of the natural world are no longer taken for granted and exploited without considering long term impacts. Supporting children from early childhood to develop a sensitive, compassionate and cooperative relationship with each other and the natural world is a crucial step in generating this new consciousness” (p. 1, The Children in Permaculture Manual; Alderslowe, Amus & Didi, 2018).
In this presentation insight will be provided on the values and environment that children can grow up in and be nurtured with. What does it mean to have Children In Permaculture? And how can this be made possible?
Gaye Amus is an environmental educator specialised in early childhood education and is based in Helsinki, Finland. She has had 12 years experience working in kindergartens including a Rain or Shine nature kindergarten in Finland. Founder of the social enterprise Learning In Nature Ltd she is currently training educators internationally, contributing in conferences, giving seminars and consultation in nature pedagogy and outdoor education. She pioneered and co-founded the Children in Permaculture project and is a co-author of the book “Earth Care, People Care and Fair Share in Education: The Children in Permaculture Manual” (2018). She is also the author of the book “Come Out and Play: A Learning Journey Towards Nature Pedagogy” (2022) which depicts her experiences as well as her personal journey in Finland and provides practical information for parents and teachers on why and how to go outdoors with children.

Lapset ja permakulttuuri
”Planeettamme tulevaisuus riippuu tietoisuuden muutoksesta, jossa ihmisiä ja luonnonvaroja ei enää pidetä itsestäänselvyytenä eikä niitä hyödynnetä ilman pitkän aikavälin vaikutuksia. Lasten tukeminen varhaisesta lapsuudesta lähtien herkän, myötätuntoisen ja yhteistyökykyisen suhteen kehittymisessä toisiinsa ja luontoon on ratkaiseva askel tämän uuden tietoisuuden synnyttämisessä” (s. 1,The Children in Permaculture Manual; Alderslowe, Amus & Didi, 2018)
Luennolla tarjotaan näkemys arvoista ja ympäristöstä, jossa lapset voivat kasvaa ja voida hyvin. Mitä tarkoittaa lasten kasvattaminen permakulttuurisesti? Ja miten tämä voidaan tehdä mahdolliseksi?
Gaye Amus on kotoisin Istanbulista,Turkista ja on Helsingissä asuva, varhaiskasvatukseen perehtynyt ympäristökasvattaja. Hän on työskennellyt 12 vuoden aikana eri päiväkodeissa, joista yksi oli Luonnossa kotonaan päiväkoti. Gaye Amus on perustanut sosiaalinen yrityksen Learning in Nature Oy:n ja hän kouluttaa kasvattajia ja opettajia Suomessa sekä kansainvälisellä kentällä. Gaye pitää kursseja, osallistuu seminaareihin ja konferensseihin eri maissa, ja tarjoaa konsultaatiota liittyen luonto- ja ulkoilmapedagogiikkaan. Gaye on lasten permakulttuurin uranuurtaja. Hän oli mm. mukana kehittämässä Lapset permakulttuurissa-projektia. Gaye on yksi kirjoittajista kirjassa “Earth Care, People Care and Fair Share in Education: The Children in Permaculture Manual” (Huolenpito maapallosta, ihmisistä ja reilu jako kasvatuksessa: Lapset Permakulttuurissa Käsikirja) Hänen uusin kirjansa on julkaistu turkiksi vuonna 2022: ”Tule ulos leikkimään- oppimismatka kohti luontopedagogiikkaa”.
