    Behind Ikielo festival

The main organizer of Ikielo in 2025 is the Finnish Permaculture Association (Suomen Permakulttuuriyhdistys ry).

The current core festival team members are, from left to right:

Marja Nuora (vision), Jasper Keus (communications, program), Pauliina Helle (producer), Suvi Tiihonen (program, volunteers), Suvi Puttonen (finances), Erkki Pöytäniemi (Chairperson of the board) and Elisa Ojutkangas (Secretary of the association, missing from the picture).

    What is permaculture?

Permaculture is an ecologically based design method that seeks to mimic and utilize natural processes to develop sustainable systems that meet the short and long-term needs of individuals, communities, and the planet. These systems can include systems for food and energy production, housing, or the organization of economic activity.

At the core of permaculture – as well as at the core of the Ikielo festival – there are three ethical principles:

    Earth care

Care for the land, forests, water, air and living beings.

    People care

Caring for yourself, your loved ones and communities locally and globally.

    Fair share

Reasonably balancing consumption in relation to production and resources, and returning surplus to the cycle.
